DBCachePlugin has been ported to the latest DBCacheContrib.

It seems to me that TopicTitle is a very small reason to install such a big non-core Plugin as DBCacheContrib. Surely if its useful to have TopicTitle (I woulda thought it was) we should be adding this small feature to the core?

I really would like to see TopicTitle in the core ... and a couple of other things that need the same kind of changes to the core to make it feasible and scalable. That is: a central registry for metadata about a foswiki site. We came a cross this need in a couple of other places where we can profit from caching information into a small database, like backlinks, wanted pages, cache user mappings, weblists, and so on. These features are all computed the hard way on the fly. Not a situation which we should rely on the next years given that corporate wikis and community sites demand decent scalability.

These feature changes need at least one proposal before rushing out any code. This also means: no TopicTitle anytime soon on foswiki.org...

However, in order to support the UX team and their usability work we should not totally rule out installing DBCachePlugin as it already supports some of the features needed there.

closing because we will get some form of caching when we update to foswiki 1.1, and because TopicInfo needs to be discussed in the development area.
