I recently had situation where many topics in a particular web would fail to load with an error message being thrown up. I figured out that it was on topics which had a subscribe tag in them. Digging further, I found that in one subscription in WebNotify (which contained 100+ subscriptions) referred to a topic that had been trashed. Once I removed that topic subscription, everything worked fine again.

However, this vulnerability is pretty significant: trash one topic that has a subscription and you effectively bring down almost entire web.

What I'm wondering is whether SubscribePlugin could be made to fail less spectacularly. I'm not sure what this might mean... perhaps displaying an error message in place of the subscribe tag? In that way, the pages with subscribe tags would still be accessible.

It would also be helpful if some feedback were given in the error message about which subscription line in WebNotify was cause of problem. In WebNotify topics with lots of subscriptions, it can be tricky to find one that has some formatting problem.

If the problem is with the WebNotify topic, most likely the error is from MailerContrib.
