Item711: Create Email Addresses For Task Teams

Proposal:

Please add email addresses for the TaskTeams and forward to the private or business accounts of all the members of the respective task teams, e.g.

• infrastructure@foswiki.org -> e-mail addresses of all members of the infrastructure team
• or InfrastructureTeam@foswiki.org
• and marketing@foswiki.org -> e-mail addresses of all members of the marketing team
• ...

Goals:

• Clear path to contact the members of the task teams
• Get rid of unwanted commercial appearance of the foswiki project
• Create a way to "silently" contact task teams
• Facilitate information sharing within the task teams

I somehow prefer that communication is as open as possible. The task teams overlap a lot in scope, and many of us are members of many teams. The idea of the teams should more be "to get the job done" than being an object of "turf war". And the best way to avoid this is openness having everything public. Only the infrastructure team and security team have a real need to have private rooms for obvious reasons.

I also think there is some ghost chasing with respect to email addresses. People use their email addresses that they are used to use and why is this suddenly an unwanted advertising post?

I agree the foswiki.org site should not be an advertising hell and I want logos and commercial presense to be limited to what we already have guide lines for. But starting chasing people that happen to have email addresses in their companies is taking it a bit far.

Having said all this - having mailing lists for task teams that are open and logged in public I have no issue with. On the other hand as long as traffic is under control in the MLs we have I would limit the number of lists.

There may however be a need to better communicate HOW to communicate with the teams.

Hi Kenneth, I didn't want to cause irritation (or chase somebody). Sorry for being unclear, especially because I nearly fully agree with your view on this. Active people using their email accounts too keep it manageable for them. Yes! Open as possible (and useful). Yes, please! People doing their business with Foswiki. Absolutly yes!

But why not offering email addresses to people to contact a whole task team the easy way? I just think, that it looks more professional if people that are interested in foswiki can contact the teams directly. E.g. when I saw a few days ago that foswiki.de wasn't registered yet (perhaps to use for the association or just to forward to DE sub web), I tried to silently contact and inform infrastructure and marketing team and I wondered why there are no official team email addresses. So I just wanted to make a proposal on this...

You are absolutely right that it leaves the problem that this email communication isn't (automatically) available for other users/members of foswiki which would be much better! But I trust the members of the task teams to spread the info that is useful for the foswiki project and to keep hidden only the possibly harmful one.

MLs would be nice, too. btw thanks for excellently managing the release!

As I currently hold the foswiki domains, until the Foswiki association comes into being, I have thought about this for the last months, hoping it would not come up.

I decided that I would not be making email addresses without a proper community meeting/vote style decision.

My preference is that anyone who wants foswiki emails to come into existance, work hard on making the association into existance, and that once the domains are transfered, that can be the decision making vehicle.

I do think it would be fun to have foswiki.org emails, but is it important enough to distract us from our core mission - to develop foswiki?
