Item5415: Wikiword topic name gives wrong feedback if there's an embedded dot
Priority: Enhancement
Current State: No Action Required
Released In: n/a
Target Release: n/a
Reporting this because some of our users have mentioned this. I realize that the . is used for subwebs and such, but like I said, a few people have mentioned it.
1) Edit any twiki page, and type an non-existent wikiword with a dot someplace in the text, such as
FooBar8.2
2) Save the changes.
3) Go to click on the ? appearing around the new topicname of "FooBar8.2", but in this case the ? isn't appearing at the end of "FooBar8.2" like you'd expect, it instead is appearing after the "8", changing the topicname to "FooBar8".
It'd be great if there was some sort of other feedback when the user first saved the page with the new topicname they wish to create, something like "we're sorry, topicname can not contain dots". What's happening is people are clicking on that question mark, creating the new page, and then are later on realizing the topicname isn't what they wanted.

it
would be possible to add code to the wiki word rendering so that the dot can be used inside a wikiword
unless the prefix is an existing web..
so, lets call this an enhancement

Setting this to No Action. Using . as part of topic names, plus using it as the web.topic separator is going to be very confusing. It would need a feature proposal.
