Item485: Nightly build 1360 broken links or bad content

1. http://server.domain/foswiki/bin/configure the target of the link http://foswiki.org/Support/ProtectingYourConfiguration does not exist
2. BehaviourContrib - Dev and Appraisal pages on foswiki.org don't exists. Links to google group are broken. Nabble link is OK
3. ContributedAddOns references nonexistent Foswiki:Extensions.AddOnPackage
4. UpgradeGuide links to nonexistent additional resources pages on foswiki.org
5. System.Contribs link to nonexistent http://foswiki.org/Extensions.ContribPackageHowTo
6. ClassMethod, StaticMethod, ObjectMethod are a group of orphan pages, not relevant to normal documentation?
7. The list of links at http://server/foswiki/ "Welcome to Foswiki, READEM, LICENSE etc", 3 of the links (Installation guide, upgrade guide, release notes" all end up at a page that looks the same, titled "Welcome to the Main Web"
8. WebPreferences has attached logo.gif of the TWiki logo (same with this very installation)

There are at least 4 types of problems here.

• There are links pointing to Foswiki System web that do not exist because Foswiki System web will not be correct until foswiki.org is updated to run Foswiki instead of TWiki. They cannot be fixed now but will fix them selves.
• There are internal links within the Foswiki installation. These must be fixed before release
• There are links pointing to Foswiki Support web. Here the action item is to create the missing topic in Support web.
• None of the default extensions are uploaded to Foswiki Extensions web yet because we are still fixing them. I have prepared them for upload tonight.

We need the individual issues characterized correctly. I can help if you have doubt.

For the Support web docs, all is planned if you see the link on SupplementalDocuments.

This is a far as I'm prepared to go in breaking down the report. Anyone who wants to pick off an individual one can create a new task if they want to, or just fix it and mark it so here.

Addressing (and fixing if needed each one)

• http://server.domain/foswiki/bin/configure the target of the link http://foswiki.org/Support/ProtectingYourConfiguration does not exist
  • The URL is correct. The topic is not yet merged over on foswiki. So action is on foswiki website.
• BehaviourContrib - Dev and Appraisal pages on foswiki.org don't exists. Links to google group are broken. Nabble link is OK
  • Few of the default plugins are uploaded yet. No point as long as we are fixing them. They cannot be used in TWiki. But I prepared all the docs in the default plugins (the many checkins by me on the 16th of Dec 2008). Appraisal topics have been generally agreed to go. Dev topics will soon be an application that helps people raise bugs and ask and see support questions. This is not ready yet. So for now we just create nearly empty Dev topics with a simple headline. Uploading default extensions is part of normal release procedure. No special item needed.
• ContributedAddOns references nonexistent Foswiki:Extensions.AddOnPackage
  • This needs to be created on foswiki. The distribution is correct. Item503
• UpgradeGuide links to nonexistent additional resources pages on foswiki.org
  • UpgradeGuide needs to be rewritten from scratch. Tracked on Item500
• System.Contribs link to nonexistent http://foswiki.org/Extensions.ContribPackageHowTo
  • Link is OK. Need to create the topic on foswiki.org. Item504

  • Good question. They were added recently by Gilmar. They link to each other but add no value to and end user or sysadmin. They are developer docs. So I leave them on SVN but remove them from distribution. Item507

  • Yes BuildContrib does not seem to generate these 3 html docs correctly. I wonder about your error description but it is true that the html files are near empty. Item508

All items are not addressed and many already closed in other bug items which leaves no further action on this one.
