Item465: Changing main top-navgiation-bar on foswiki.org

Restructured the main navigation top on .foswiki.org

• Removed System web or better, used it as documentation web
• Added Documentation link
• Added download web
  • Used a dummy web and a apache rewrite URL to be able to link over to About. this is because FlexWebList is used for the TopBar
• Changed the order

I would also like to remove Tasks from the top-bar navigation and move it to Communy and Development

Pros

• Tasks looks completely different
• Its not usefull for the casual visitor
• all people using tasks can navigate properly and know the system

Cons

• Motivation of posting / lookin at Task can lower for the "normal" User

http://foswiki.org/ front page still has the modified version of the top navigation bar. The Download link does not work. I suggest putting the download link in the sidebar menu. I think it fits better there since I believe users typically expect, in large sites, for the top navigation bar to lead to major sections of the site. I can't quite figure out where the sidebar is defined for the Home web (I see TWikiWebSideBar topics in TWiki and Main, but neither of them correspond to the sidebar in the Home web). -- IsaacLin - 15 Dec 2008

In accordance with the discussion on #foswiki, I agree that web site navigation changes ought to be co-ordinated, so people won't spend a lot of time developing parallel plans to change the navigation in two different ways. The WebsiteFacilitatorTaskTeam page explicitly disclaims responsibility for look and feel of the project site, and the UserExperienceTaskTeam page says that it is responsible for the direction of Foswiki's web site, so I would look to it to do the co-ordination. (I had this problem when I was trying to report a (as far as I know, still existing, since the task I have raised has not been updated) problem with the Preview functionality, since there is no clear person/task team responsible for the Foswiki site.) -- IsaacLin - 15 Dec 2008

I removed Download from top-level bar as it's behaviour is unlogical. I added a download box to the homepage insted (and added download to sidebar).

Taks needs get removved from topbar as well. It should go to the tools section (like sandbox).
