I like the sound of this, i.e. as we have two huge icon sets available:
FamFamFamContrib and
FugueIconsContrib.
The logical consequence is that you'll have an extensive mapping between semantic icons and physical icons. Alas, to create these
kind of mappings is a horrid task. How can this be solved?
(adding myself and you, Stephane, to waiting for to get emails on any change on this topic)

Haven't work on that much since the first check-in. First prototype was using configure to store actual icons markup. That's obviously wrong as we have seen with
CssPlugin. I'm planning on using a skin template like
icons.tmpl
. Hope you like the idea Michael. I have performance concerns though regarding skin template. Will a skin template with a couple of hundreds
DEF
impact performance?

Maybe we should ask
Mr. Icons

As you can see from the trunk
DocumentGraphics topic, I've made a mapping for
FamFamFam, and its all going to be shipped with foswiki 1.1.
The foswiki 1.1 core
also adds support for icon mapping to be defined in a tmpl file - though this doesn't give us backwards compatibility - see the icons.tmpl file in the
FamFamFamContrib - I'll be documenting this in the coming weeks.
and y, we desperatly need someone to write a decent benchmarking tool, which can be run as trivially as the unit test system.

Excellent. So what is left to motivate an
IconPlugin?

if I've done my job
then maybe some additional or better mappings than the ones we inherited.. - I'll leave this for Stephane to decide

As on FYI, this plugin shows up as an installable plugin for foswiki 1.0.9+ (at least) and if installed and enabled breaks the built-in
%ICON%
functionality.

If semantic icons are now provided by the core then we can close this task and mark the
IconPlugin as deprecated.
