Consider the following text input:

   * 1<2
   * <a href="/">test</a>
   * <a href="/">test</a>

I would expect the < on the first line to be escaped, but strangely enough, the links on the next line get escaped instead. The third line is interpreted as HTML as expected. Is there any logic to this?

Entering a plain < is never safe. Please use < instead.
