Item14519: SEARCH macro in 'news mode' topic displays no results in MailerContrib emails

When using the "news mode" in MailerContrib, most macros in the body of the target topic seem to expand normally, however both VarSEARCH and DBCachePlugin's DBQUERY macro fail to display any results in the rendered email even though they do show results looking at the rendered topic. I've tried to track down why these macros would expand differently in the newsletter.tmpl versus normal topic view but have not found any leads.
