Item12716: IE Edge Mode
Priority: Normal
Current State: Confirmed
Released In: n/a
Target Release: n/a
I have recently put my installation of Foswiki into IE edge mode to force the browser not to use compatibility view. This is achieved by adding the following meta tag to the top of the header:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge" />
While making the changes to foswiki.tmpl and foswiki.pattern.tmpl, I spotted some code forcing IE into IE7 compatibility mode when using the edit page. This seems to have been put in to resolve a slowness issue reported on
Item2476.
From my experiences so far, using edge mode seems to work fine so it might be time to stop forcing IE users into IE7 compatibility mode. Especially considering IE7 is pretty much an obsolete browser these days:

Steven, correct, this is the right thing to do. The
EDIT_FORCE_IE8_COMPATIBILITYMODE
variable has been removed in Foswiki-1.2.0 (trunk). See
http://trac.foswiki.org/changeset/17425/ for the full extend of the changeset.
