The package installer detects the parenthesis in the DEPENDENCIES file as invalid characters for a module name and sanitizes them. 

validatePerlModule removed 3 characters, leading to JSON::XS

The contents of the dependency: 

JSON::XS (),>=2.231,1,perl,Required.

Dependencies should be the perl module name not including any parameters.
