How to avoid certain page requests being counted as page views?

We have implemented AJAX on many pages in our wiki also have created certain pages that are viewed only by AJAX. These pages as loaded by AJAX, mostly based on some timeout, get a view hit as high as a few thousands.. way above the normal page views..! There are already about 15 such pages..

Is there a way to avoid certain page requests being counted as page views?

We had thought of increasing the number of pages listed in statistics under most viewed, but how many should we set it to..? We might add more pages to load using AJAX and this solution will fail! Besides its not just our team that uses the server... We just have a web.. this configuration will affect all the webs!

Is there a specific type of page request that can be raised, say post with custom header data.. anything that can be done while making the AJAX call, which will not get counted as a page view..?

Heya,

This is a pretty sensible suggestion that will need a FeatureRequest - The WebStatistics code is ancient, and could do with a makeover - adding a set of pluggable filters would make alot of sense.
