Does BulkRegister work if PasswordManager is set to none?

I tried using BulkRegistration while PasswordManager is set to none in my configuration (I set my Foswiki up to use Login Name and don't care about passwords)

On the BulkRegistration page I got a "Sorry, the password system is currently read-only" message above the [Bulk Register These People] button, and nothing happens when I click on that button.

no, it can't work. The PasswordManager is used by the TopicUserMapper to save loginname-password-email information, and so no registration, either normal or bulk is possible.

Hi Sven. That doesn't sound right to me. With PasswordManager set to none, regular registration does still work. It seems to me like BulkRegistration should also work (although it doesn't).

The functionality of regular registrations with PasswordManager set to none is documented in the configure interface:

... Using ApacheLogin and PassordManager set to 'none' (and AllowLoginName = true) is a common Enterprise SSO configuration, in which any logged in user can then register to create their Foswiki Based identity.

Changing this to "Needs followup in Tasks". This seems to be a bug, and Bulk Registration has some other issues as well.
