TWikit->Foswiki md5 password file not working

Migrating from TWiki to Foswiki. Windows OS, Foswiki password handling using md5 encryption. Copied user pages to Main and old TWiki password file to new foswiki but foswiki does not recognize any of the passwords. If I reset my password, foswiki removes all passwords from the file replacing them with a string:

"Enter your LoginName. (Typically . . ."

For new users or after password reset it works.

However, I don't want to have to make all users re-register.

Ideas??

The default encryption mechanism ist crypt(). You can set the encryption mechanism in configure in the section Security Setup --> Passwords -> {Htpasswd}{Encoding}. Have you already tried that?

I am experiencing the exact same issue. The config instructions recommend crypt for Linux, besides, if you use a differenent encryption, will that not authenicate to the existing md5 file ??

see Tasks.Item2287. I need more information to track this down. If anyone with this issue can add more detailed info, and even better, email me a htpasswd file that exhibits this issue, I'd be thankful.
