Why is .foswiki class used for generated HTML?

[19:59] * SvenDowideit_ is still confused why we use .foswiki classes rather than styling the table elements

Answer

I don't understand the question fully. But if you mean, why do we use .foswikiTable td instead of td, this is to limit the styling to tables that are intended to be styled.

mmm, frustrating really, I as a user expect all tables (including the ones i hand coded) to look the same, except if I say otherwise.

basically, a sane default, to which we then add over-rides for those things we want to style differently.

our current approach isn't progressive improvement, it leaves other tables totally unstyled frown, sad smile

so for eg, I think we should style td, and then add extra styles for foswikiOdd, foswikiForm etc.

Sometimes tables are used for markup. Bad practice, but it happens. To limit the default styling to topic contents, we could use .foswikiTopic td (etcetera) for default table styling.
