This question about Configuration: Answered

Why are attachments being displayed as uploaded by UnknownUser?

Currently, whenever a user uploads an attachment, it is being displayed as uploaded by "UnknownUser" to other users. It displays ownership properly only if the attachment was uploaded by that user. Otherwise everything shows up as "UnknownUser".

Is there a way to configure Foswiki so that ownership display properly for everyone?

This Foswiki config is set for "LoginManager::ApacheLogin" and "Users::TopicUserMapping".

Thanks.
Well, normally ownership does display properly. Look at any topic with attachments in this wiki to see what I mean.

Sounds like there may be something wrong with the way you have your foswiki configured.

One thing you should check; look at the raw text of a topic that has attachments. There will be a META:FILEATTACHMENT line for the attachment. That line should contain a user name. It is UnknownUser?

The %META:FILEATTACHMENT contains the proper username and is not UnknownUser but perhaps as you've mentioned, it's my config that's the problem. Maybe Foswiki doesn't know about the user because I'm using ApacheLogin as the authendication mechanism and the user listing is in a .htpasswd file?

Currently this Wiki is private. I have it set so that Apache does the authendication from a .htpasswd file ("LoginManager::ApacheLogin" & "require valid-user"). Do I need to somehow tell Foswiki to grab the user listing from the .htpasswd? The weird thing is that Foswiki knows about the currently logged in user and displays all the information related to the current user properly.

Thanks.
