Feature Proposal:Script that changes the IP/DNS in the configuration to become the current IP

Motivation

For my reasons I have a Foswiki in a VM and want it to be always ready for access from the local network without manually adjusting the IP(s).

Description and Documentation

It is probably a rare use case, occuring if using localhost isn't sufficient (no graphical environment, intranet access required) but a none static IP is assigned via DHCP. For this scenario the script identifies the current IP and changes related configuration entries to ensure Foswiki will be accessible (once a user has the IP ;).

I am wondering if such script could become part of the tools directory or if others may believe it could pollute that place because of the potentially rare use case.

Discussion

for the vm, it sounds like an ifup script that could automagically fix the cfg for you smile

Ingo, is there any chance of getting this for 1.2? Or, given that it's a rare use case, do you want to decouple it from the release process and release it as an attachment to a FAQ in Support web?

I think this is a rare use case that should be catered for using a FAQ. Raised a concern to reflect this.

Changing to a parked proposal. Ingo has not been around recently and no activity here in 3 years.
